JOSHUA ATWOOD (b. 1722), son of Joseph Atwood and Bethiah Crowell

MARY KNOWLES, daugher of Paul Knowles and Phebe Paine


Joshua Atwood was born on 27 October 1722 in Eastham. [1] Joshua Atwood of Eastman married Mary Knowles of Truro on 27 November 1746 in Truro. [2] Joshua married second Mercy Nickerson, the widow of Heman Kenney. [3] Edwin Crowell says that when Joshua was old he married the widow of Heman Kenney. [4]

Mary Knowles, the daugher of Paul and Phebe (Paine) Knowles, was born on 20 January 1726/7. [3] It appears from the records of the settlement of her father's estate that Mary died by 11 April 1775. [3]

Joshua moved to Nova Scotia about 1766 and was one of the original proprietors of Barrington. [3]

Joshua had lot number 34 at the Head in Barrington. [4] He was a tanner. [4]

Joshua Atwood, tanner of Barrington, sold one and a half shares of all of the small islands lying to the west and southwards of the Green Cape Island in Barrington on 28 December 1774 for 15 shillings. [5]

i. Joseph Atwood was born in 1749 in Chatham, Barnstable, Massachusetts. He died on 20 Sep 1833 in Barrington. married Susanna Smith.

ii. Mary Atwood married Joseph Homer in 1779. [6] Joseph, the son of John and Abigail (Osborn) Homer, was born in 1757. [6]
